Background:
Oracle User Experience groups provide comprehensive usability engineering, interface design support, and user interface research. They are responsible for the development and maintenance of Oracle-specific look and feel standards and cross-platform user interface consistency. The products include enterprise resource planning applications, database administration and development tools, business intelligence solutions, server technologies, and database applications. Oracle User Experience groups follow a user-centered design methodology. In addition, there are extensive laboratories for usability evaluation and research projects.

Responsibilities:
Working with multidisciplinary development teams, you will spearhead user interface design in conceptualization, design, and development of Oracle products. Responsibilities include identifying requirements, developing user models, designing and prototyping UI for interaction, developing and maintaining UI specifications and guidelines, and communicating with development teams to evangelize UI design directions and resolve design tradeoffs and implementation issues. You will collaborate closely with usability specialists to conduct necessary front-end research and support usability efforts throughout the product development cycle. Also, you will work closely with visual designers to achieve optimal visual appearance of products. You will mentor associate user interface designers and student interns.

Qualifications:
Advanced degree in Industrial Design, Visual Design, Human-Computer Interaction, or other related discipline. Three to ten years of industry experience in shipping software products. Strong conceptual skills and demonstrated ability to prototype and design elegant UI solutions to user problems. Proven track record in applying user-centered design processes and methods to product development. Strong communication and people skills in working in a multi-disciplinary, collaborative environment. Portfolio available for review a plus.

Usability Engineer

Background:

Responsibilities:
You will plan, design, and implement user studies and usability investigations on Oracle products throughout the entire product development cycle. Working closely with interface designers and development teams, you will plan and conduct customer requirements and specifications development, user interface designs, prototyping, scenario development, usability testing before and after product release, and competitive testing of product usability.   You will supervise junior usability engineers and student interns.

Qualifications:
M.S./Ph.D in Cognitive, Experimental, or Industrial Psychology, Anthropology, Human Computer Interaction or other related fields, with a solid foundation in human information processing and research design using quantitative and qualitative methods. 1-2 years industry experience (internships qualify) in gathering user requirements, heuristic evaluation, usability testing and questionnaire/survey design.  Prototyping experience, UI design experience, and knowledge of HTML are pluses.

Interaction Designer Intern

Background:
Oracle is a leading provider of enterprise software applications. Oracle's Applications User Experience group is responsible for the user experience of Oracle enterprise applications. The group conducts user research and designs user interfaces for the next generation of applications. This intern position is for 6 months.

Responsibilities:
Your primary responsibility will be to work closely with and assist Interaction Designers. This can include: Design prototypes, screen mockups and wire frames based on the results of usability testing and customer feedback. Research best practices in web and desktop application design . Develop understand of the corporate User Interface Guidelines and review new and existing designs for compliance . Also you will p resent designs and research to User Experience team and work with Interaction Design Lead to translate feedback into effective and innovative user experiences . Research and develop user scenarios to be used during the design and development processes . You will w ork collaboratively with Usability Engineers and other user experience professionals to define and improve the user experience for Oracle's software applications.

Qualifications:
Must be enrolled in a program to receive a Bachelors or Masters degree for Industrial Design, Interaction Design, Information Design, Graphic Design, Architecture, Human Factors or Human Computer Interaction. Experience with Photoshop, Illustrator, Visio, and Excel. Prototyping skills (e.g., HTML dHTML, Java Script, Flash) are desired but not required. Familiarity with the user-centered design process. Excellent verbal, written, and presentation skills.

Usability Intern

Redwood Shores, CA and Pleasanton, CA

Background:
Oracle is the world's largest supplier of database and enterprise software. Oracle software is the world's favorite solution for fully distributed computing. Our products drive applications for sales and e-marketing, accounting, human resources, and manufacturing. This intern position is for 6 to 12 months.

Responsibilities:
Your primary responsibility will be to work closely with and assist usability engineers. This can include: Planning and conducting user research, including methods such as: ethnographic field studies, usability studies, benchmark studies, competitive evaluations, focus groups, phone interviews, user surveys, heuristic evaluations, prototype evaluations, and similar approaches. Preparing data collection materials (e.g., discussion guides), synthesizing end user research findings, creating presentations and reports, personas, task flows, and general documentation of research techniques and processes. Also you will assist in all the pre and post set-up necessary for conducting research, which includes: set-up, recruiting participants, understanding business needs and requirements, implementation details, participant follow-up, artifact logging, and data transference if necessary. You will be w orking collaboratively with interaction designers and other user experience professionals to define and improve the user experience for Oracle's software applications.

Qualifications:
Must be a graduate student or have graduated from an accredited graduate program in the area of Cognitive, Experimental or Industrial Psychology, Human Factors or Human Computer Interaction. Prototyping skills (e.g., HTML, paper, XML, Java) are desired but not required. Excellent verbal and written communications skills. Computer skills a must with medium to good typing skills. Experience with office applications (e.g., MS Word, MS Excel) and the Internet required.
